IgG1 Antibodies to House Dust Mite (Dermatophagoides farinae) and Late Asthmatic Response

Abstract: Thirteen asthmatic patients sensitive to mite were challenged by inhalation of an extract of mites (Dermatophagoides farinae). Seven showed dual bronchial reactions and 5 showed isolated immediate responses. No patient showed an isolated late reaction. Six of seven patients with dual reaction had higher IgG1 antibodies than the 5 patients with isolated immediate reaction when examined before the challenge. A similar result was obtained in terms of levels of immune complex. IgE, IgG4 and total IgG antibodies we… Show more

“…Furthermore, purified myeloma IgGl and IgG3 are strong agonists for eosinophil degranulation in vitro (Fig. 5), and several previous studies have shown elevated levels of IgG1 in sera (40,56) or bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (57) from patients with asthma. The production of IgGl and IgG3, but not IgG2 or IgG4, is coordinately regulated by one of the Th2 cytokines, IL-10 (58); Th2 cytokines are implicated in the pathophysiology of bronchial asthma (59).…”

“…In atopic diseases, IgE is regarded as a critical Ig, and higher OD49Onm levels of mite-specific serum IgE are present in mite-sensitive patients with asthma compared with normal donors (16,39,40). On the other hand, elevated allergen-specific serum IgG was also detected in patients with asthma (16,(39)(40)(41).…”

“…In particular, it is not known whether IgG (IgG 4 ) is involved in the late-phase reaction or if it reflects the repeated sting injury [24,25]. IgG 1 has been found to be involved in systemic anaphylaxis in a mouse model [26] and in the late asthmatic response in an epidemiological survey [27]. It has also been recognized in canine mast cell activations [25].…”
