“…Others have reported a 78% seroprevalence of measles specific IgM in CD patients, 59% seroprevalence in UC, 10% among patients with hepatitis C, and 0% blood donor controls. 19 An IBD population-based epidemiologic study from Manitoba, Canada, interestingly reported an inversion of the gender ratio, with an excess of male cases among birth cohorts born between 1967 and 1982. 20 Although the implications from this observation are uncertain, a notable differ- ence between females and males born after 1967 in Manitoba is that adolescent females, and not males, were the target of a province-wide rubella vaccination program between 1979 and 1995.…”

“…Recently, some investigators suggested that both measles and mumps infections during the same year up to age 10 were associated with a substantially increased risk for both UC and CD (87). However, con icting data have been published concerning the isolation of measles virus, serologic ndings and epidemiological studies (79,(88)(89)(90)(91)(92)(93).…”

“…At present, immunological investigation of the potential link between measles and CD has been limited to the assessment of anti-measles antibody levels in patients with CD compared to controls [14,49-51]. Equipped with sophisticated bioinformatic approaches, computer searches are now able to identify linearized molecular mimics.…”
