Image Analysis Software for Porosity Measurements in Some Powder Metallurgy Alloys

Abstract: The present research was aimed to study the porosity in some powder metallurgy (P/M) alloys using an image analysis software. The porosity in P/M parts is an important parameter because is affecting the mechanical properties. Also, porosity is in correlation with processing parameters such as green density, alloying elements, particle size. The conventional method for porosity measurements of powder metallurgy products is using the density technique. Another method for porosity measurements was using an image … Show more

“…Image J [23] is a free and useful image analysis software tool to analyse using filters, adjustments and Threshold binary function in detection the porosity. In [24][25][26], Image J was applied to study porosity in sintered P/M specimens. The images acquisition was carried out for non-etched samples using a digital camera coupled to optical microscope.…”

“…With this method, big datasets may be evaluated quickly and automatically, leading to a deeper comprehension of the porosity distribution in the sintered alloy. It also reduces the subjectivity associated with manual approaches by providing accurate and quantitative results [37][38][39].…”
