Image-guided drug delivery of nanotheranostics for targeted lung cancer therapy

Abstract: Enormous efforts have been made to integrate various therapeutic interventions into multifunctional nanoplatforms, resulting in the advance of nanomedicine. Image-guided drug delivery plays a pivotal role in this field by providing specific targeting as well as image navigation for disease prognosis. Methods: We demonstrate image-guided surgery and drug delivery for the treatment of lung cancer using nanotheranostic H-dots loaded with gefitinib and genistein. Results: … Show more

“…[ 8a,12 ] They are minimally metabolized and rapidly cleared, thus minimizing the toxicity and side effects of the PS. [ 13 ] To achieve renal clearance, the overall size of the PS must be smaller than the threshold of kidney filtration (≈6 nm) to pass the glomerular capillary wall. [ 14 ] Unfortunately, ultra‐small nano‐PS based on self‐assembly have scarcely been reported, because the planar and highly hydrophobic structure of PS with strong intermolecular interaction makes it easy to form large nanoaggregates.…”

“…Lung cancer is a malignant pulmonary disease with a high morbidity and fatality rate. [1][2][3][4][5][6] Every year, lung cancer affects nearly two million individuals around the world and has become the primary reason of cancer-related deaths. 7,8 Surgery is commonly the primary choice in lung cancer treatments; however, due to the insidious and atypical clinical symptoms of lung cancer, approximately two-thirds of patients are diagnosed with advanced stage cancer, who are not suitable for conventional surgical operations.…”

“…, polymeric, liposomes, and virus-like particles) or inorganic ( e.g. , gold nanoparticles, metal oxide, and mesoporous silica nanoparticles) nanoparticles have been widely studied, 16,17 and ligands can be functionalized on their surfaces to reach specific target sites, 18–20 and specific targeted drugs can also be delivered to tumor tissues by carrying drugs. 21,22 Now, it has been studied for the treatment of various malignant tumors such as prostate cancer, breast cancer, and pancreatic cancer.…”

“…Current research focuses on the phase change synergistic agents, which are multifunctional, as well as multimodal imaging molecular probes with smaller molecular size, higher drug loading, better targeting, and internal circulation. 15 At present, organic (e.g., polymeric, liposomes, and viruslike particles) or inorganic (e.g., gold nanoparticles, metal oxide, and mesoporous silica nanoparticles) nanoparticles have been widely studied, 16,17 and ligands can be functionalized on their surfaces to reach specific target sites, [18][19][20] and specific targeted drugs can also be delivered to tumor tissues by carrying drugs. 21,22 Now, it has been studied for the treatment of various malignant tumors such as prostate cancer, breast cancer, and pancreatic cancer.…”
