Imaging Diagnosis of Transient Ischemic Attack in Clinic and Traditional Chinese Medicine

Abstract: Neuroimaging plays a pivotal role in Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Generally, clinicians focus on the specific changes in morphology and function, but the diagnosis of TIA often depends on imaging evidence. Whereas Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is concerned with the performance of clinical symptoms, they began to use imaging methods to diagnose TIA. CT and MRI are the recommended modality to diagnose TIA and image ischemic lesions. In addition, Transcranial Doppler sonography (TCD) and Digital Subtract… Show more

“…In this study, we utilized whole-brain perfusion pseudo-color maps and whole-brain vascular maps obtained through WB-CTP were used to evaluate TIA patients comprehensively and rapidly ( 21 ). Our findings revealed a correlation between the ABCD3 score, degree of intracranial vascular stenosis, and the perfusion parameters in the abnormal brain tissue perfusion areas in TIA patients.…”

“…Clopidogrel [15] is the most widely used drug with significant short-term efficacy and good safety and does not increase the occurrence of hemorrhagic stroke and other adverse reactions. According to traditional Chinese medicine [16], cerebral ischemia can be classified into the category of "blood stasis syndrome," and the pathogenic mechanism is blood stasis block and qi and blood obstruction. erefore, TIA is treated by supplementing qi and promoting blood circulation and clearing collaterals and meridians.…”

“…Medical imaging techniques provide valuable supplemental support for TCM practitioners in the diagnosis of transient ischemic attacks. Medical imaging in TCM focuses primarily on identifying categories, assessing the effectiveness of TCM treatments, and integrating TCM with Western medicine [31] . These developments demonstrate that TCM is progressive in nature, satisfies modern diagnostic and therapeutic demands, and has yielded favorable outcomes in clinical studies and applications [32][33] .…”
