Imaging of Liposarcoma: Classification, Patterns of Tumor Recurrence, and Response to Treatment

Abstract: The subtypes of LPS with greater nonlipomatous soft-tissue components on imaging studies tend to show less differentiation and are usually more aggressive both histologically and clinically. Imaging plays an important role in the diagnosis, surveillance, and response assessment of LPS.

“…[24][25][26][27] The imaging findings frequently overlap, including typical imaging features such as the triple sign, which may also be seen in undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma. 5 SS may rarely appear almost cystic on pre-contrast MRI (as seen in one of our patients) and may then mimic other cystic lesions such as a poplitaeal cyst (if around the knee joint) or a haematoma, and heterogeneous contrast enhancement helps differentiate between the two in these cases.…”

“…Bu tümörlerin yağ doku komponenti tümör volümünün %75 veya daha fazlasıdır. İyi sınırlı olan tümörün içinde kalın ve düzensiz septalar mevcuttur ve bu septalar T1-A görüntülerde hipointens, yağ baskılamalı T2-A görüntülerde hiperintenstir ve kontrast madde ile parlaklaş-ma gösterir ayrıca tümör içinde küçük nodüler yumuşak doku alanları bulunabilir [34,35].…”

“…Vulvar LPS is difficult to be accurately diagnosed preoperatively and may be misinterpreted as benign lesions due to their close resemblance to Bartholin's gland pathologies such as cysts or abscesses, inguinal or femoral hernias, or benign softtissue tumors as a result of their location and appearance. Imaging modalities such as ultrasonography (US), color Doppler ultrasonography (CDUS), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have been used to assess soft tissue tumors [3,4]. Especially US is the first line examination technique in vulvar pathologies.…”
