Assuch, development of3C/4C seismic acquisition,processing, andi nterpretation systems hasincreased overt he past fewy ears withint he geophysicalcommunity. These improvementshaveshown that3C/4C seismic information hasapplication beyondstructuralinterpretation,and canrevealinternalreservoircharacteristicsthataredirectly useful inunderstandingandmanagingthe reservoir.Afterr eviewingthe principles,a pplications,b enefits andrecent advancesin3 C/4C seismic technology,a ll from anengineeringperspective, thisp aperconcludest hat3 C/4C seismic hasu tility beyondthe known niche applications such asimagingb eneathg asclouds,to applications withb roaderbenefit,such asfracture characterization anddrillinghazardidentification,aswell asbetterreservoirproperty prediction andthe ability to discriminatelithology( sand/shale)andfl uid (water,g as,fi zzy water). Thesec onclusions arei llustrated with recent casestudies.
