“…It is most useful for identifying thrombocytopenia due to peripheral platelet destruction, in which the reticulated platelet count is increased [16]. For hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, the increase in the IPF after transplantation precedes the increase in the total platelet count [17]. The possibility of predicting platelet regeneration a few days after an increase in the reticulated platelet count enables prevention of unnecessary prophylactic platelet transfusion in patients undergoing transplantation or receiving chemotherapy.…”
