Immediate Effect of Kinesio Taping on Muscle Response in Young Elite Soccer Players

Abstract: Context: Kinesio taping (KT) is a new taping technique increasingly used in sports medicine to improve muscle performance; however, its real effect is not entirely known. Objective: To assess the immediate effects of KT on muscle performance in young healthy elite soccer players. Design: Crossover study. Setting: University laboratory. Participants: Eighteen young elite soccer players voluntarily participated in the study (mean ± SEM: age 18.20 ± 2.45 y, height 1.76 ± 3.56 m, body mass 65.25 ± 3.76 kg, body-ma… Show more

“…In line with recent investigations, 6,7,24 we did not find any effects of a KT application at the ankle joint on corticospinal excitability. Our measures of excitability, including MEP amplitude and SP duration, were largely unaffected by taping condition.…”

“…12 Rousanoglou et al 12 reported a significant relation between jumping height and strength of the knee-extensor muscles in young female volleyball players (P £ .05 and power of analysis >.80). However, findings are conflicting regarding the effects of KT on muscle strength 11,[13][14][15] and jumping, 11,16,17 with reported improvements in healthy participants 8,10,11,14 but not in athletes. 13,14 For instance, jump performance of healthy participants with no history of previous lowerextremity injuries was improved by using KT, 11 but this was not the case in male athletes.…”

“…Acredita-se que a aplicação da bandagem facilitou a ação muscular através de uma tração concêntrica da fáscia muscular. O alinhamento das fibras musculares pode ter contribuído para o reposicionamento da pelve, pois no GB houve tensionamento de 50% da bandagem elástica 11 . Outros estudos sugerem que os efeitos da bandagem podem ocorrer por aumento do recrutamento de unidades motoras do músculo 12,13 .…”
