Immediate release of helicid from nanoparticles produced by modified coaxial electrospraying

Abstract: In this paper, a modified coaxial electrospraying process was explored for the generation of novel nanoscale composite materials. A solution comprising 5% (w/v) of the model drug helicid and 10% (w/v) polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) K10 in a mixture of N,N-dimethylacetamide and ethanol (4:6, v:v) was employed as the shell working liquid. This could not be processed into a solid product when processed by single-fluid electrospraying. However, when undertaking co-axial electrospraying with a core shellac solution (40%… Show more

“…Different arrays have been used by electrospraying for the formation of nanoparticles as coaxial electrospraying for core‐shell nanoparticles (Wang, Wen, Yu, Yang, & Zhang, ; Yang, Zhang, Wang, & Yu, ; Yu et al., ), coaxial electrospraying to creating high‐quality monolithic particles (Li et al., ; Liu et al., ; Yang, Zhang, Liu, Wang, & Yu, ), and to study the influences of experimental parameters and process characteristics on working processes (Huang et al., ). However, few publications can be found to investigate the relationships between the working fluids’ properties and their adaptability for electrospraying, which is a significant merit of the present work.…”

“…Although EHDA processes (including e‐jet printing, electrospraying, and electrospinning) are fast developing to the multiple‐fluids ones, such as coaxial (Hai et al., ; Yu et al., ), triaxial (Liu et al., ; Yang et al., ), their microformation mechanisms are still unclear (Yang, Zhang, Liu, Wang, & Yu, ; Yu, Li, Williams, & Zhao, ). Thus, on one hand, the single‐fluid electrospraying and electrospinning are still the mainstreams of these fabrication methods.…”

“…Similarly, as a peer advanced technology of electrospinning, electrospraying can be useful for teaching materials to dispel learning doubts for the college students majoring in Material Science and Engineering. Electrospraying, a straightforward process for generating micro-/nano-particles in a single-step manner, is also a "top-down" nanofabrication technology that takes advantage of the interactions between the working fluids and the high voltage electrostatic energy [19][20][21][22].
