“…(Table 3 and 5) The complication rate in our cohort was comparable to other eye centres practising ISBCS worldwide. [1][2][3] The consensus in our institution was that second eye surgery must be deferred until recovery of first eye if significant intra-operative complications occurring in the first eye. This was in line with RCOphth guidance, Moorfields Standard Operating Procedure for ISBCS and International Society of Bilateral Cataract Surgeons (iSBCS) guide recommendations.…”

“…Immediate sequential bilateral cataract surgery (ISBCS) has been practised worldwide as an alternative approach in treating patients with bilateral visually significant cataracts, which involves operating two eyes of a patient on the same surgical session with each eye considered as a separate sterile procedure. [1][2][3] Conventionally, bilateral cataracts are managed by operating the first eye followed by the second eye on a different day, which is referred as delayed sequential bilateral cataract surgery (DSBCS).…”

“…This study was underpowered to detect PE considering the center's rate of 1 in 14 493 operations, which needs to be acknowledged. 1 The authors report a 1.2% incidence of bilateral CMO in their cohort. Including patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy and epiretinal membranes may be a contributing factor.…”

“…[8][9][10][11][12][13][14] Finally, Centre Universitaire d'Ophtalmologie due CHU de Québec-Université Laval reports over 6,500 ISBCS procedures (13,000 eyes) over 4 years, with resident participation, accounting for over 50% of all cataract procedures. 15 Notably, these groups have unanimously reported no cases of bilateral postoperative endophthalmitis or bilateral toxic anterior segment syndrome (TASS) while following the General Principles for Excellence in ISBCS established by the International Society of Bilateral Cataract Surgeons (iSBCS) in 2009. 16 Historically, the main barrier to general acceptance of ISBCS has been the possibility of developing these complications, which have severe consequences.…”
