Immobilization of Lewis acidic ionic liquid on perlite nanoparticle surfaces as a highly efficient solid acid catalyst for the solvent-free synthesis of xanthene derivatives

Abstract: Perlite nanoparticles were prepared, modified with Lewis acidic ionic liquid, and used as a highly efficient catalyst for the eco-friendly, solvent free and high yield synthesis of xanthenes via a multicomponent reaction.

“…The product was washed with distilled water and neutralized with sodium hydroxide, then washed again with distilled water and filtered by filter paper under vacuum, then dried in oven at 100 °C for 2 hours, and calcinated at 700 °C for 1 hour. 1 g of perlite nanoparticles (PNPs) was added to 100 ml, 50% of TBAB in a stirred-refluxed flask at 80 °C for 24 hours, the product filtered, and dried vacuum oven at 100 °C (Figure 3) [36].…”

“…Moradi et al employed perlite nanoparticles modified with Lewis acidic ionic liquid (perlite NP@IL/ZrCl 4 ) as heterogeneous nanocatalyst for the one-pot synthesis of xanthene derivatives. [66] Perlite, an volcanic glass containing silica (70-75%), alumina (12-15%), and traces of oxides of sodium, potassium, iron, magnesium and calcium. As shown in scheme 96, ionic liquid Si(pmim)Cl 214 was prepared and attached to already synthesized perlite nanoparticle surfaces 215.…”

“…Condensation of aldehydes, β-naphthol, and cyclic 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds is the simplest method for the synthesis of tetrahydrobenzoxanthene-11-ones. So far, many catalysts were used for synthesizing various xanthene derivatives such as nanocatalysts, [26][27][28][29][30][31] acid catalysts, [32,33] ionic liquids, [34,35] organocatalysts, [36,37] polymeric catalysts, [38] and natural catalysts. [39] However, such types of catalysts possessed some disadvantages like prolonged reaction time, toxic organic solvents, metal-based catalysts, sluggish reaction and low product yield, harsh reaction conditions, use of the excess quantity of catalysts, and difficult recovery and reusability of the catalyst.…”
