“…During the first week, immune protection could be provided by maternal antibodies and innate effector (Bar-Shira and Friedman, 2006). However, the immune protection of maternal antibody in chicks was poor (Swinkels et al, 2006), so innate effector including goblet cell or MUC2 played an important role in intestinal immunity. Therefore, although green light improved intestinal immunity of the chicken embryo at E21 (hatch) in our study, it has an important biological role in intestinal immunity for the first week.…”

“…While sublethal injury by pressure has been detected in bacteria (Mañas & Pagán, 2005), this phenomenon has not been documented in parasites. The severity of coccidiosis symptoms can be correlated with dosage, and while this can vary with the isolate, ingestion of as few as 500 oocysts of E. acervulina has been demonstrated to cause weight depression and lesions (Swinkels et al, 2006). Therefore, if viable oocysts remained after pressure treatment in this study, the surviving population was likely to be fewer than 500 oocysts.…”

“…A number of previous studies (Blake et al, 2006(Blake et al, , 2008Swinkels et al, 2006Swinkels et al, , 2007 have developed assays for quantification of Eimeria spp., but they lack the crossspecies breadth of the real-time PCR HRM curve analysis described here. Further studies are necessary to fully investigate the capacity of the real-time PCR HRM curve analysis for quantification of Eimeria spp.…”
