“…Before treatment, most patients were reactive to mumps and streptococcus skin test antigens. During and after treatment, patients with poor skin test reac tivity or decreased numbers of rosette-forming lympho cytes relapsed [8]. Skin test reactivity to tumor cell extract was not different for disease-free or relapsing patients.…”

“…Scarification of BCG converted PPD-negative patients but without improving response to conventional therapy; BCG and immunization with allogeneic tumor cells failed to lengthen the survival of patients with metastatic dis ease. Of patients treated for localized disease with the conventional regimen, 4 of 5 remained tumor-free when BCG was added; and 1 of 9 remained tumor-free when BCG was not used [8]. Thus, nonspecific immunostimulation with BCG (or better standardized prepara tions) and tumor-specific immunization with cell mem branes (or 'viral oncolysates') of cultured allogeneic or autologous Ewing sarcoma cells should be investigated in view of some successes reported in the case of soft tissue sarcomas [14], Interferon acts as a cell growth regulator and it has been applied for the treatment of human osteosarcoma and lymphoma (for review, see Sinkovics [15]).…”

“…Richardson et al [18] followed DTH skin tests in patients receiving BCG in combination with various other forms of therapy for Ewing's sarcoma and noted no change apart from PPD conversion associated with BCG therapy. The strain, dose, and method of administration of BCG used were different from those in the present study, and it is not possible to determine which factor or factors explain(s) the absence of depression of skin test reactivity in their study.…”
