Introduction: Gold preparations are highly prized and often utilized for their tonic and revitalizing effects in Indian systems of medicine. Gold has both preventive and curative medicinal properties. The Kashyap Samhita, under the name Swarnaprashana, describes the usage of gold internally in children via the oral route. After birth, it is indicated in Lehan karma (supplementary feeding to improve nutrition, immunity and intelligence) and Jatkarma (newborn care). Now a day Swarnaprashana in children is getting huge publicity, and many trials are being conducted to evidence its use in children. Material and Methods: This review is in a narrative format and consists of all publications relevant to Swarnaprashana or Swarnabinduprashana, Suvarnabindu prashan, Suvarnavachayog, or Swarnavachayog that the authors identified through a systematic search of major computerized medical databases; no statistical pooling of results or evaluation of the quality of the studies was performed due to the widely different methods employed by each study. Result and Discussion: The present review of the studies proves the role of Swarnaprashana in enhancing cognition and protection against diseases by enhancing immunity. Swarnaprashana acts on multiple levels and can be given for better growth and development in children. Swarnaprashana is safe for children. Conclusion: Clinical and pharmacological studies show immunomodulatory, nootropic, and therapeutic effects of Swarnaprashan as therapy.

Childhood needs diverse nutritional requirements. Poor appetite, lifestyle changes, and poor digestion affects child immunity and make them prone to diseases. Kaumarabhritya, a branch of Ayurveda which deals in child and adolescent health care, has a unique concept of Swarna Prashana (SP) to promote generalized immunity and intellect. SP is commonly recommended to children between 0 and 12 years of age and given as a general health promoter to improve intellect, digestion, strength, immunity, longevity, and complexion. Multiple benefits of SP are mentioned in different Samhitas which needs to be explored on scientific background. Authors have highlighted content variabilities, plausible mechanisms, research tasks and potentials, lacunae, and future prospects about SP. This manuscript is a spotlight on current social, clinical, marketing, and scientific information of Swarna Prashana. SP can be a cost-effective, safe, infrastructure compatible, and prevention-centric approach to improve children’s overall health status and has the potential to serve as a positive health care program for children.

Swarna (~gold) is categorized under the Sara loha varga (~noble metals) and is said to be superior to all other metals. Almost all ancient Ayurveda classics have indicated the therapeutic utilities of Swarna. However, compiled information on various aspects of this metal is not available, considering which, an attempt has been made to screen and compile information from available literature. The data have been compiled from different Ayurveda classical texts. Research articles published on Swarna bhasma (~incinerated gold ash) have also been referred for information. This precious metal is advocated to be used in therapeutics after converting it into fine powders through processing specified classical pharmaceutical procedures. The published information reiterated the therapeutic applications of Swarna bhasma referred in the classical literature. Swarna bhasma exhibited anticataleptic, antidepressant, antianxiety, antioxidant, antiarthritic, and antiangiogenic properties. It has shown significant effects on memory enhancing and improving learning abilities too.
