Immunomodulatory Effects of Hexane Insoluble Fraction of Ficus septica Burm. F. in Doxorubicin-treated Rats

Abstract: The use of chemotherapeutics induces cardiotoxicity and affects immune functions, therefore development of combinatorial agents against cardiotoxicity and immunosuppression needs to be explored. Previous studies of the hexane insoluble fraction (HIF) of an ethanolic extract of Ficus septica leaves showed anticancer effects singly and in combination with doxorubicin on T47D breast cancer cells. In this present study, it was evaluated for its immunomodulatory activities in doxorubicin-treated rats. Thirty male S… Show more

“…A decreased CD4 + /CD8 + ratio has been reported to be correlated with decreased immune function (28,29). Wang et al showed that patients with non-small cell lung cancer had a significantly lower CD4 + /CD8 + ratio than healthy controls and patients with advanced-stage cancer had a significantly lower CD4 + /CD8 + ratio than those with earlystage cancer (27).…”

“…It is suggested that CD4+/CD8+ ratio is crucial to be kept in a dynamic balance, in terms of maintaining the immunological function stable (Dou et al, 2013). the ratio decreased is reported to link with a low immunological function (Erdem et al, 2012;Nugroho et al, 2012). Our study demonstrated that patients with NSCLC had a significantly lower level of CD3+, CD4+, and CD4+/ CD8+ ratio compared with healthy controls; patients with advanced staged NSCLC had a significantly lower level of CD3+, CD4+, and CD4+/CD8+ ratio compared with those with early stage.…”

In this study, The patients with OSCC received 2 cycles CT or radical operation had a significantly higher level of CD4 + /CD8 + ratio compared with that received no treatment or 1 cycle CT. NK cell is also designated as natural killer cells.…”
