“…Although the percentages of CD4 ϩ and CD8 ϩ in PB are not always strictly comparable with results from other studies, 23,24 the CD4 : CD8 ratio was comparable. However, in the present study, significantly higher percentages of CD8 ϩ T cells were observed in the PB of the healthy randomsource dogs than in the PB of the purpose-bred Beagles.…”

“…In the few previous reports of lymphocyte subpopulation analysis in the BALF from healthy dogs, the CD8 ϩ cell counts were higher than reported in the present study, which resulted in a lower CD4 : CD8 ratio. 24,25 In EBP patients, the numbers of CD4 ϩ and CD8 ϩ T cells in PB were significantly higher than in the control group. However, in the BALF of EBP dogs, there were significantly more CD4 ϩ T cells and significantly fewer CD8 ϩ T cells than in the control population.…”

“…The goals of this study were to identify changes in the peripheral blood lymphocyte distribution in dogs treated for lymphoma by use of well-characterized antibodies reactive with canine leukocytes. 7,8 A flow cytometric approach with approximately 1 mL of anticoagulated blood was readily adapted, and a reference range for aged clinically healthy dogs comparable to studies assessing a more limited range of markers in dogs 10,13,[17][18][19] and to values in the human literature 20 was established. Control dogs of similar age to dogs with lymphoma were recruited for this study because it has been suggested that with increasing age the proportion of CD4 ϩ and CD21 ϩ lymphocytes decreases, and the proportion of CD8 ϩ lymphocytes increases.…”

“…24 We have shown here that in particular the CD4 T cells have a low CD45RA expression; the CD45RA bright CD4 T cells are less than 5% of the total CD4 T cells. This indicates that the CD4 T cells in the airway compartment have differentiated into the memory phenotype both in normal and allergic dogs.…”
