Immunophenotyping of HPV Types 16 and 18 among Sudanese Patients with Oral Lesions

Abstract: The study suggests the role of HPV 16 and 18 in the etiology of oral cancers in different parts of Sudan. However, the use of molecular techniques such as PCR are needed to confirm the results of immunohistochemistry in the role of the HPV in developing of OSCC in Sudan.

“…The host immune responses such as proliferation of immune to respond to HPV16 were lower among women with persistent HPV infection in the oldest age group (>65 years) that seems to be determinants of incident infections decreased, whereas persistence of infection increased in older women . According to Ginawi et al found that the highest prevalence of HPV‐positive cases was in the age range 31‐50 years. Ahmed et al found the highest prevalence of HPV infection in 31‐ to 40‐year‐old individuals, followed by those in the 51‐ to 60‐year‐old group.…”

“…Helicobacter pylori was found in 80% of patients with gastritis, 56% of patients with duodenal ulcer, 60% of patients with duodenitis and 16% of normal control subjects (Azim et al, 1994). The role of HPV, herpes simplex virus and Epstein-Barr virus in the etiology of oral cancers (Ahmed and Eltom, 2010;Jalouli et al, 2010), as well as the role of HPV in the development of cervical cancers cancer (Salih et al, 2010;Elasbali, et al, 2012;Ginawi et al, 2012) in different parts of Sudan was well established.…”
