Immunotherapy

Abstract: Head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCCs) are one of the most common cancers worldwide. A large number of patients are diagnosed with locally advanced disease and require multimodal treatment approaches. Standard treatment modalities ranging from surgery to chemotherapy and radiation are yielding mixed results. To overcome this hurdle, newer innovative approaches are required to reduce the morbidity and mortality of the patients. In the last few decades, immunotherapy has become an important part of trea… Show more

“…Nowadays, immunotherapy has grabbed the prodigious attention of scientists for the treatment of cancer. Immunotherapy demonstrates an antitumor effect by stimulating the inherent immune system of the host to fight against tumor cells . Currently, cancer vaccines, adoptive T-cell transfer, immune checkpoint inhibitors, immunomodulation, and targeted antibody therapies are considered as popular immunotherapy approaches for cancer management.…”

However, ineffectiveness in eradication of solid tumors, immune-related side effects, and high cost are the major hurdles faced during immunotherapy.…”

“…Monoclonal antibodies, a significant advancement made possible by the pioneering work of Milstein and Köhler in the 1970s, have revolutionized this field [ 11 ]. They are engineered to specifically target antigens and can be produced at a large scale, playing a pivotal role in modern immunotherapy [ 12 ].…”

“…Common treatments for HNSCC include surgical treatment, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and combination therapy [3]. With the deepening of research, immunotherapy, especially immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI), has gradually entered the Exploring the Role and Prognostic Value of TMEM208 in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma public eye and become an important part of treatment [5].…”
