Impact Analysis of Renewable Energy based Generation in West Africa – A case study of Nigeria

Abstract: The limited supply of fossil fuels, constant rise in the demand of energy and the importance of reducing greenhouse emissions has brought about the adoption of renewable energy sources for generation of electrical power. In this paper, the impact of renewable energy generation in Nigeria is explored. A review of renewable deposits in Nigeria with a focus on Solar, Biomass, Hydropower, Pumped Storage Hydro and Ocean energy is detailed. The impact of renewable energy-based generation is assessed from three diffe… Show more

“…The country, endowed with abundant natural resources, faces the dual challenge of ensuring energy security and fostering sustainable development. The transition towards renewable energy sources is not only a strategic response to the global decline of fossil fuels but also a necessary step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting environmental stewardship (Adeyemi-Kayode et al, 2021).…”

“…The economic implications of this shift are profound. Renewable energy generation in Nigeria is poised to contribute significantly to employment, gross domestic product (GDP) growth, and local research and development (Adeyemi-Kayode et al, 2021). The social impact is equally notable, with renewable energy education, businesses, and projects proliferating across the country, fostering a new ecosystem of innovation and investment (Adeyemi-Kayode et al, 2021).…”

“…Based on their simulation results, they have achieved a significant reduction in energy costs and environmental impacts. Moreover, the authors in [19] have investigated how to achieve sustainable development by studying the impact of generating renewable energy on the economy and the environment. Similarly, they studied the use of ocean-based renewable energy for generating electrical power and analyzed the economic and environmental impacts of adopting their approach [20].…”
