Impact of Applied Potential on the Structural and Non-lubricated Wear Composite Coating in Petrochemical Industry

Abstract: The need to improve the structural properties of materials in petrochemical industry, due to recurring failure, has motivated this study. The effect of deposition potential on structural integrity, surface topography and micromechanical progression of Zn based induced aluminium and TiO2 alloy coating series on mild steel was studied. The wear stability and microhardness behaviour of the developed composite coating was examined via, respectively, sliding reciprocating rig and dura scan diamond based microhardne… Show more

“…KCl was added to increase the conductivity of the electrolyte, 2- Butyne 1,4 diol and Cetylpridinium Chloride were added as surfactants to reduce the surface tension of the solution which in turn lower the surface energy, so as to give good adhesion. The dispersion reinforcement behaviour which often causes change in coating performance [4] , [5] , [6] helps to obtained coating thickness, weight gained, coating per unit area generated and presented in Fig. 2 .…”

“…The initial surface preparation was performed with finer grade of emery paper as described in our previous studies [2], [3], [4], [5]. The sample were properly cleaned with sodium carbonate, pickled and activated with 10% HCl at ambient temperature for 10 s then followed by instant rinsing in deionized water.…”

“…In addition, the codeposition of nanoparticles needed in term weight fractio n fo r uniform incorporation w ithout agglomeration is also a challenge [11][12][13]. Reasonably less work is reported on the improvement in properties of electrodeposited Zn on quaternary additive by the incorporation of nano alumina, titanium , and tin particles in single bath [14][15].…”
