Impact of Declining Population on Food Self-Sufficiency Rate

Abstract: This paper seeks to investigate the hypothesis that the demand factor will tend to have a larger effect on the food self-sufficiency rate in Japan than the supply factor. The changes in the individual food self-sufficiency rate in Japan from 2011 to 2060 are estimated and decomposed into the demand factor and supply factor. The results support the hypothesis of this paper.
