Intensive catfish [Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822)] cultivation produces organic waste that decreases water quality. The aquaponics system utilizes fish waste for plant growth to produce useful and economical products. This study aims to analyze and evaluate the best density of Mexican sword plant/water Jasmine [Echinodorus palaefolius (J. F. Macbr.)] in reducing waste from intensive catfish aquaculture. The research method used a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments with three replications. A plastic tub with a size of 38 cm × 12 cm × 30 cm filled with sand was used for plant media, while for catfish rearing containers, a 70 L tub with a water volume of 40 L was used. The fish used in this experiment were catfish fry with a size of 7 cm ± 0.8 cm, a weight of 5.14 g ± 0.45 g, with a stocking density of one fry per liter. Catfish fry were fed with floating pellet feed of 30 % protein content, and the feeding was done at satiation. The treatments were T1 = without plants, T2 = 150 g m -2 plants, T3 = 250 g m -2 plants, and T4 = 350 g m -2 plants. Furthermore, all data were analyzed through ANOVA (One-way analysis of variance) and the Duncan's multiple range test to measure significant variations among the treatments using SPSS (version 17, USA). The results revealed that T4 was the best treatment in terms of nutrient removal efficiency of TAN, NO 2 , NO 3, and PO 4 at the rate of 23.80 %, 48.19 %, 52.99 % and 26.11 %, respectively. Moreover, growth performances of fish fry fed diet in T4 also were significantly (P < 0.05) higher than other fishes of different treatments. Regarding these findings, E. palaefolius could work well to maintain water quality during C. gariepinus cultivation and even accelerated C. gariepinus growth at the end of the period.

Length weight relationships (LWR) of five marine fishes were estimated from the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh. Fish samples were collected occasionally from fisher's catch with gill net (mesh size: 3 cm) during November 2019 to October 2020. Fishing was done overnight. Total length (0.1 cm) and body weight (0.01 g) of each individual were measured. We recorded maximum total length for P. maculatus (55.0 cm) and P. parmatus (39.0 cm).

This study was conducted to estimate the diversity and the occurrence of commercially important finfish species collected by twenty fish sampling site of Sindh and Baluchistan coasts of the Arabian Sea in Pakistan from January to December 2019. Additionally, physicochemical characteristics of seawater were analyzed from these selected sites and found to be within suitable ranges required for fish growth and survive. A total of 81287 fish individuals were collected and identified as 49 species belonging to 26 families in our study. The most diversified family was Sparidae (13 species) followed by Carangidae and Lutjanidae (4 species), Mullidae, Serranidae, Ariidae (3 species), and Sciaenidae (2 species). The remaining 20 families were represented by only one species. The values of Shannon diversity index calculated for the four selected habitats revealed that high fish diversity was reported at Sonmiani Coast (H'=1.81), while less at Ormara Coast (H'=0.23). Likewise, Evenness index (E) was high at Sonmiani Coast (E=0.50) and less fish diversity was reported at Ormara Coast (E=0.06). Reducing risks to threatened marine species in coastal habitats also requires conservation actions at multiple scales. Thus, it was concluded that our study could be valuable in providing the more information’s regarding to the diversity of finfish species and their occurrence along the Pakistan Coast. Further, to better understand the effects, regular monitoring and conservation measures should be taken to mitigate the influence of anthropogenic activities and protect finfish diversity from further decline
