Demographic processes and brief overview of population research in Czechia and Slovakia after dissolution of the common stateThe study makes a brief overview of the demographic processes and research on them in Czechia and Slovakia during the past three decades, the period following the splitting of the common Czechoslovak state. General trends in selected demographic processes are identified and described. Research is summarised and critically evaluated in three basic areas: an analysis of recent trends, forecasting and, finally, applied demographic research. The study focuses more on applied research and forecasting because they have been less frequently appearing in the recent review studies. We intentionally omit the structures and general population dynamics. While recognizing several advancements in developing research topics and methodologies, and their increasing representation in prestigious journals, this study also highlights certain reservations and future challenges inherent to these developments.
