Water conservation represents a typical green behavior and a sustainable lifestyle. Understanding residents’ water conservation behaviors is a prerequisite for promoting more water savers. Using the snowball sampling technique, this study conducted a survey on a sample of 532 Chinese residents to investigate their water conservation behavior, i.e., reusing water in daily life. This study aims for examining psychological and knowledge factors on residents’ water conservation behavior in China using binary logistic regression. Results show that over half of the respondents (54%) have the habit of reusing water in their daily lives. Residents with stronger environmental concern and higher level of environmental knowledge are more likely to exhibit household water conservation in China. Additionally, environmental knowledge plays a positive moderating role in the relationship between environmental concern and water conservation behavior. Environmental knowledge serves as a catalyzer that facilitates the transformation from residents’ environmental concern into real water conservation behavior. Among the demographic variables, only income exerts significantly negative effect on residents’ water conservation behavior, and other variables (e.g., age and gender) fail to exert any influence on this behavior. This study contributes to the literature on environmental psychology and concludes with implications for water resource management.

Purpose Grounded on the collected data and basic view of the belief-action-outcome, the current study aims to investigate the mediating role of environmental commitment (EC) in the relationship between environmental awareness (EA) and three outcomes, namely, pro-environmental behavior (PEB), willingness to sacrifice for the environment (WSE) and nongreen behaviors (NGB). Design/methodology/approach Data was gathered from 509 restaurant employees and 96 supervisors in two different waves through a 10-day time lag in India. Structural equation modeling was used to understand the relationships using LISREL 8.30. Findings This study verified that employees’ EA is significantly related to EC. Moreover, according to the results, employees’ EC is positively related to PEB and WSE while it is negatively related to NGB. The results similarly attested to the mediation impact of EC in the relationship between EA and the outcomes. Research limitations/implications Organizations’ employment of green and eco-friendly practices can make employees more familiar with environmental concepts and practices. The current study encourages restaurant managers to regularly invest and be involved in developing relevant environmental training, which can improve employees’ knowledge and awareness of environmental matters. Originality/value By highlighting overlooked concerns in the restaurant and service literature, the current study makes significant contributions in the context of the restaurant industry. To date, there is not a single indication of any study that analyzes the impact of EA on employee EC and its potential links to other employee outcomes.

Today, green human resource management (GHRM) has become a key business strategy where HRM plays an active role in the ongoing green movement. Thus, the topic of GHRM is of growing interest among management scholars. However, despite the theoretically important role of GHRM, relatively small number of research has been discovered so far about how GHRM, in companies striving to achieve environmental sustainability, could help them gain a green competitive advantage (GCA). Thus, based on the resource-based view (RBV) arguments, the main objective of this paper is to develop a conceptual model of the relationship between GHRM and green competitive advantage through green knowledge, green values, and green commitment. This model is expected to provide a strategic map that could be utilized by the practitioners and managers so that GHRM implementation can be more effective in contributing to green competitive advantage. Overall, the present article extends knowledge on the resource-based view by contributing to the literature on GHRM and its interactions with the main assets that lead to green competitive advantage.
