“…Ghosh et al studied the upper Kangsabati river basin; the result of the overall accuracy assessment was 79.77%, which supports the validity of the study. The authors also claimed that slope was most dominant factor among the seven selected hydro-geological factors that influence the occurrence of groundwater [64]. Zhu and Abdelkareem (2021) determined that the groundwater potential zones of East Indian regions contain nearly 40% land with very high potential.…”

“…The steepness of the land slope can directly control the rate that in incident rainfall can infiltrate through the soil profile and recharge groundwater. A steeper slope results in more surface runoff and lower groundwater recharge due to insufficient time to percolate into the soil profile, and so there is always an inverse connection between surface water infiltration and slope (Ghosh et al 2020;Rajasekhar et al 2019;Murmu et al 2019;Roy et al 2021). On the other hand, almost flat and gentle slope gradients have a good prospect for groundwater recharge as there is sufficient time to allow surface water to infiltrate into a soil profile and reach the water table.…”

“…The process of Multi-Criteria Evaluation by [20] has been widely employed by many studies such as the works of [41,42,49,[54][55][56][57][58][59]] to predict groundwater. The thematic layers weighted based on expert knowledge using weighted overlay method.…”
