Impact of lepton flavor universality violation on CP-violation sensitivity of long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments

Abstract: The observation of neutrino oscillation as well as the recent experimental results on lepton flavor universality (LFU) violation in B meson decays are indications of new physics beyond the standard model. Many theoretical models, which are introduced in the literature as an extension of SM to explain these observed deviations in LFU, lead to a new kind of interactions, the so-called non-standard interaction (NSI) between the elementary particles. In this paper, we consider a model with an additional Z boson (w… Show more

“…It is still induced by the new CP-phases related to NSI's, but concerns the octant of the atmospheric mixing angle θ 23 . Such a degeneracy has been noted in the numerical simulations performed in [21,22,23] and also briefly discussed at the analytical level in [11] (see also [9,16]). But, to the best of our knowledge, it has not been addressed in a systematic way in the literature.…”

“…CP-violation (CPV) related to the 3-flavor CP-phase δ and the dynamical CP-phases implied by neutral-current flavorchanging NSI's has received much attention [9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17] 1 .…”

“…Searching for BSM neutrino interactions is of increasing importance since they could make a considerable impact on future precision oscillation measurements. For example, it is known that the Non-Standard Interactions [1][2][3][4] of neutrinos may affect the measurement of δ CP in long-baseline oscillation experiments [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. Moreover, due to various well-known problems of the SM, theorists have for decades been looking for more satisfactory theories.…”

“…For example, neutrinos may have different kind of new interactions, popularly known as neutrino non-standard interactions (NSI) [1]. In the past few years the work on NSI in the context of LBL experiments have received a lot of attention [13,28,30,252,[347][348][349][350][351][352][353][354][355][356]]. Here we discuss in detail the impact of non-diagonal flavor changing NSIs (specifically ε eµ and ε eτ taken one at a time) on the resolution of the octant of θ 23 taking DUNE [23] as a case study.…”
