The paper presents the results of four seed lots produced in Serbia and Belarus in two years, and examines the influence of their quality on 1000 seed mass, germination energy and total germination. There was no impact of the region or the year on the studied seed quality parameters. There was high variability of 1000 seed mass (CV = 20.3 %) taken from different seed lots of Italian ryegrass. Lower variability was found for germination energy and total germination (CV = 9.88 % and CV = 7.98 %). Ryegrass seed lots had lower variability for 1000 seed mass (CV = 8.34 %), germination energy and total germination (CV = 4.80 % and CV = 3.70 %). In the seeds of both species there was no significant correlation dependence of seed mass regarding germination energy and total germination. Significant influence was determined in both species between germination energy and total germination (P≤0. 001 and P≤0.05).Key words: Italian ryegrass; perennial ryegrass; quality seeds. REZIME Italijanski i engleski ljulj su značajne krmne i/ili ukrasne trave. U proizvodnji stočne hrane uglavnom se koriste u smeši sa leguminozama. Seme ovih vrsta se u Srbiji koristi delom iz proizvodnje u Srbiji, delom iz proizvodnje izvan Srbije (iz uvoza). Belorusija I Ukrajna se značajni proizvođači semena trava. Ma gde se proizvodnja semena odvijala kvalitet semena je od presudnog značaja za uspešno zasnivanje travnjaka i/ili travno-leguminoznih useva. U radu su prikazani rezultati ispitivanja po četiri partije semena proizvedenog u Srbiji I Belorusiji tokom dve godine I uticaj regiona proizvodnje na masu 1000 semena, energiju klijanja I klijavost. Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorim L.) is a short-term grass species that is of great importance for the production of quality fodder on arable land. It is grown in pure sowing or in short-term grass-leguminous mixtures. For the sowing of grasslands in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the significant seed quantities of the Italian ryegrass are used. The aim of this paper is to examine the yield variability and yield components of the progeny of the own selection of Italian ryegrass "BL Vubo" in relation to the four varieties of the Italian ryegrass that are most often used in our area. The research was carried out in the testing field and in the laboratories of the Agricultural Institute of the Republic of Srpska in Banja Luka during 2014 and 2015. These tests include the local selection "BL Vubo" and 4 foreign and local diploid and tetraploid varieties of the Italian ryegrass: Tur, Danergo, Draga and Tetraflorum. During the study, the following properties were monitored: number of generative stems per plant, spike length, number of spikelets per spike and seed yield per plant.During the two-year study, the highest average number of generative stems per plant was found in the Draga variety (183,6) and the lowest in the Tur variety (158,2). The average length of the Italian ryegrass in the tested genotypes varied from 23,4 cm (Draga) to 29,5 cm (Tetraflorum). The highest average number of spikelets/spike was found in the Tur variety (27,1). When it comes to yield of seeds/plants, the variety Draga (72,4 g) and the local selection "BL Vubo" (68,8 g) were distinguished. The variety had a highly significant influence on all tested properties (p<0,01). For the spike length, it is determined that year had highly significant influence (p<0,01), while for the rest of the examined properties, the effect of the year was significant (p<0,05). The existence of an interaction genotype x year has not been determined for any property.

Meadows and pastures, especially in the hilly-mountain area, are one of the basic ways of land utilization. Pastures are the main source of sustainable livestock production in the Republic of Srpska, as well as significant factor in conserving plant genetic biodiversity and protecting soil from erosion. Permanent or natural grasslands occupy about 350 thousand hectares of nearly one million hectares of agricultural land in the Republic of Srpska, representing about 30% of the area. Most of the natural meadows and pastures are located in hilly and mountain areas. Overall, the grasslands of the central Balkans are lowproductive and of unsatisfactory forage quality. In areas where there is no mowing and no fertilization, more than half of the grassland biomass can be produced from forbs (low quality herbs or weeds). The availability of permanent grassland nutrients has a strong impact on the biodiversity of plant species, the coverage and dominance of individual species in plant cover. Generally, the conditions in meadows and pastures in the Republic of Srpska are unsatisfactory because production potential is underutilized at all. Negative impacts such as infrastructure development and habitat destruction, overgrazing, eutrophication, overuse of rare and endangered species, discontinuation of traditional use and depopulation have led to the qualitative and quantitative changes in grasslands in the Republic of Srpska. Reduced production potential of natural meadows and pastures is also caused by the long-term effects of erosion, the impact of adverse climatic factors on areas under grasslands and improper management and use of grasslands. Improvement of the production potential of these grasslands can be achieved through fertilization with different amounts and types of organic and mineral fertilizers. Current practices and research have shown the positive effects of organic fertilizers, combined with moderate amounts of mineral fertilizers, for use in meadows and pastures.
