Impact of PINCH expression on survival in colorectal cancer patients

Abstract: BackgroundThe adaptor protein PINCH is overexpressed in the stroma of several types of cancer, and is an independent prognostic marker in colorectal cancer. In this study we further investigate the relationship of PINCH and survival regarding the response to chemotherapy in colorectal cancer.ResultsParaffin-embedded tissue sections from 251 primary adenocarcinomas, 149 samples of adjacent normal mucosa, 57 samples of distant normal mucosa and 75 lymph node metastases were used for immunohistochemical staining.… Show more

“…Strong of PINCH expression was significantly related to worse survival of poorly differentiated CRC in the multivariate analysis. 30 The increased RAD50 expression in MSS CRCs could be a cellular response against tumor from further progression. In addition, weak of RAD50 expression was associated with poor prognosis of MSS CRC.…”

“…Immunohistochemistry was performed at our laboratory for the following biomarkers: Astrocyte elevated gene-1 (AEG-1) 26 , CD163 27 , c-erbB-2 28 , cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox-2) 29 , D2-40 30 , FXYD-3 31 , Ki-67 32 , Meningioma associated protein 3 (Mac30) 33 , Nuclear factor-kappaB (NFκB) 34 , p53 20 , p73 35 , Particularly interesting new cysteine-histidine-rich protein (PINCH) 36 , Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta (PPARD) 37 , PRL 17 , ras 38 , RBM3 (unpublished data), TAZ 39 and Wrap53 19 . The microsatellite status (microsatellite stability, MSS; microsatellite instability, MSI) was determined by PCR based assays as previous describing 40 .…”

“…Originally recognized as a marker for senescent red blood cells, LIMS1 is an evolutionarily conserved protein that exhibits widespread expression within mammalian cells 20 . It predominantly comprises five zinc finger domains, facilitating its interaction with Integrin‐linked kinase (ILK) and enabling it to function as an adaptor protein for signal transduction in integrin and growth factor pathways 21,22 . Prior investigations have demonstrated that the association between LIMS1 and RAS suppressor protein 1 (RSU‐1) forms a synergistic complex that effectively inhibits the proliferation and migration of tumor cells 23 .…”
