Impact of preoperative Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS) and American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) scores on perioperative complications in patients with recurrent glioma undergoing repeated operation

Abstract: Objective:The objective of this study was to document the impact of the preoperative Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS) and American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) scores on perioperative complications in patients with recurrent glioma who underwent tumor resection via craniotomy. Methods:A total of 96 patients were retrospectively reviewed. Based on KPS and ASA scores, patients were categorized into high KPS (> 70) or low KPS (≤ 70) and high ASA (3~4) or low ASA (1~2) groups. Differences in intraoperativ… Show more

“…Bioinformatics studies of gliomas have an important role in improving the accuracy of diagnosis and treatment, for example, thanks to bioinformatics, WHO have added molecular biomarkers such as isocitrate dehydrogenase mutation status to the diagnostic guidelines of glioma ( Louis et al, 2016 ). Currently, although surgical resection of tumors combined with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and neurorestorative therapy somewhat improves the prognosis of the patient, over 50% of LGG patients eventually develop into highly aggressive gliomas ( Deng et al, 2019 ; Wang et al, 2020 ). Hence, new prognostic factors need to be identified for LGG.…”

“…Among different original pre-operative multimodal MRI scans, post-contrast T1-weighted and other available sequences such as T2-weighted images were employed in present study. Clinical data and molecular genetic data included gender, OS time, age, KPS, and other information ( 66 ).…”

“…Current recommended treatment for glioblastoma includes maximal safe resection, radiotherapy, temozolomide, and alternating electric field therapy (2). Despite all treatment efforts, glioma recurrence is inevitable due to the invasive nature of the tumor hampering complete tumor resection (3). Although it is practically impossible to eradicate every glioma cell surgically, increasing the precision of glioma removal with more accurate margin delineation predicts better treatment outcomes and preservation of quality of life (4)(5)(6)(7).…”
