“…Thiram (2%) fungicide causes an increase in MDA content in diseased pepper plant leaves relative to control ones. This result was compatible with results of Metwally and Abdelhameed [67] in cucumber leaves treated with Ridomil. Thiram (2%) caused oxidative stress in pepper by producing ROS, which resulted in peroxidation of membranous lipids and the formation of MDA [110].…”

“…Synthetic chemical fungicides have been a mainstay in agriculture for controlling fungal diseases for decades; however, fungicides, like other pesticides, can have negative non-target effects on the environment, such as beneficial fungi to plant growth [65]. Wide fungicide use influences the mutualist fungi such as arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi [66,67]. Our results showed that the inoculation of pepper plants with B. amyloliquefaciens RaSh1 bacterial endophyte significantly reduced the DI under A. alternata attack challenged conditions.…”

“…Unfortunately, these molecules may also affect soil plant-beneficial microorganisms such as AM fungi (Jin et al, 2013;Buysens et al, 2015). Their impact on these belowground microorganisms have been investigated under field (e.g., Schalamuk et al, 2014;Rivera-Becerril et al, 2017), greenhouse (e.g., Jin et al, 2013;Channabasava et al, 2015;Rabab and Reda, 2019) and growth chamber (de Novais et al, 2019a) conditions as well as in vitro on root organs (e.g., Campagnac et al, 2008;Zocco et al, 2008) or whole plants (e.g., Zocco et al, 2011).…”

“…The elucidation for these findings is that AM fungal association enhances the uptake of water and nutrients by cucumber plants through the presence of extensive extra-radical hyphal networks in soils that are more thin than roots and can pass through smaller pores; they obtain macronutrients (such as orthophosphate) and micronutrients (such as Zn 2+ ) from soil that is unobtainable to roots (Hao et al 2019 ; Metwally and Abdelhameed 2019 ; Abdelhameed and Metwally 2022 ). Also, these fungi aid in the improvement of morphological and physiological mechanisms.…”
