Impact of salicylic acid foliar application on two wheat cultivars grown under saline conditions

Abstract: Salinity is one of the limiting factors in agricultural production of all crops in the world specifically in cereals crops. There are different ways to decrease the effect of salinity on growth and production of all plants. One of these ways is using salicylic acid which is plant growth regulator; it is able to increase the salt tolerance in crops. The aim of this work was to study salicylic acid effects on alleviation salinity stress and enhance plant growth parameters, physical characteristics, biochemical c… Show more

“…Along with ABA, it was applied to plants to regulate the drought conditions (Miura & Tada, 2014). Salicylic acid regulates temperature, salt, HM stress and ultimately cell death and provides resistance in conditions caused due to hypersensitive responses (Fahad & Bano, 2012; Khanna et al, 2016). In Hordeum vulgare roots, salicylic acid content was found to increase during exposure toCd and ameliorate Cd stress by activating the pathways that can detoxify Cd, apart from modulating the antioxidant defence system (Metwally et al, 2003).…”

“…The role of AsA in enhancing photosynthesis, seed germination, leaf development, and inducing antioxidant levels is well known . In addition, AsA treatment affects the selectivity of mineral uptake; for instance, it reduces the Na + /K + ratio to protect plant cell membranes . Xia’s results indicate that priming with AsA could effectively alleviate aging damage in oat seeds…”

“…Improving WUE in the crop production sector includes improving land cultivation, developing droughttolerant genotypes, and applying special agriculture practices (El-Hendawy, 2016). Salicylic acid (2-hydroxybenzoic acid) is considered as of the phenolic compounds widely distributed in plant species it's a natural plant endogenous hormone it has a physiological effect on the growth and flowering of plants and the absorption of ions it gives plants systemic immunity against pathogens and helps plants to resist stresses resulting from temperature, drought, and salinity (EL-Nasharty et al, 2019). Sofy (2015) pointed out that drought stress at the grain filling stage significantly decreased plant height, spike length, number of grains spike -1 , 1000-grain weight in wheat plants, and mitigation of the adverse effects of drought via the application of salicylic acid.…”
