Impact of several NiTi‐thermally treated instrumentation systems on biomechanical preparation of curved root canals in extracted mandibular molars

Abstract: Aim: To evaluate the shaping ability of several heat-treated nickel-titanium systems used to prepare root canals with moderate and severe curvature, in extracted mandibular molars, by micro-computed tomography, considering their variation in kinematics and design.Methodology: Curved-mesial roots of mandibular molars were randomly selected and assigned into 4 balanced experimental groups (n = 10), established by determining homogeneous 3D parameters of volume and surface area: R-Motion (RM) size 30, 0.04 taper … Show more

“…The different phase transformation temperatures and composition of various NiTi endodontic instruments resulted in distinct intracanal file behavior [28]. Moreover, to ensure a complete phase transformation (martensite to austenite) of the RM files, which occurs between 32 and 35°C [12], a digital magnetic hot plate stirrer was used in the current study to Note. The significant level set at P <0:05, the Kruskal-Willis test suggested that there was a significant difference between the tested groups, as the P-value was less than 0.05. mimic average body temperature conditions.…”

“…Group I: RM. The RM #025/06 file was used in reciprocating angles of 150/30 (CCW > CW) [12]. This file was used of 3 mm amplitude while applying minimal apical pressure, and it was removed after three pecking motions in three passes till it reached the entire working length.…”

“…The R-Motion ( RM ) system (FKG Dentaire, Switzerland) is a new nickel titanium single-file system that works in a reciprocating motion. The only study about it showed that this file had a similar shaping ability to that of Reciproc-Blue ( RB ), HyFlex-CM and XP shaper systems [ 22 ]. The Tango-Endo ( TE ) (Essential Dental Systems, NJ, USA) and Fanta-AF-One ( FAFO ) (Fanta Dental, China) are new NiTi rotary systems with a completely flat design along one side of the file’s active part.…”

“…The R-Motion system (FKG Dentaire, Switzerland) is a new nickel-titanium single-file reciprocating system with a non-cutting tip and a triangle-based symmetrical cross-section shape. The only available study showed that this system had a similar shaping ability of curved root-canals to that of Reciproc-Blue , HyFlex-CM and XP-shaper systems [ 20 ]. Reciprocating systems are usually used at different reciprocating angles.…”
