Impact of the biochar fraction sizes on the selected hydrophysical properties of silty loam soil

Abstract: Biochar is a widely known soil amendment. In the presented study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of biochar produced from Swedish willow ((Salix schwerinii x S. viminalis) x S. viminalis), ground into three different size fractions (<125µm, 125µm-2 mm and >2 mm) on selected hydrophysical properties of silty loam soils. Biochar was applied in the amount of 1.5% per weight of dry matter and the results were compared with pure silty loam soil (control). Data of biochar application impact on the selected hydrophy… Show more

“…Several studies have focused on investigating the reduction of water velocity by the use of additives such as biochar. The results have shown that biochar helps to increase the saturated hydraulic conductivity of the soil (Toková et al, 2023). There is a large variety of roofing substrates on the market, that are usually typical of regions and countries.…”

“…The hydrophysical properties of soil, such as porosity, saturated hydraulic conductivity, soil water repellency, and water retention capacity, are the most important factors that affect the soil environment. Some authors found that the soil water retention capacity and porosity increased in sandy soil after biochar amendment [7][8][9] decreased saturated hydraulic conductivity and bulk density [10,11] and had no effect on soil water repellency [12] or altered it [13,14]. The impact of biochar on clayey soil is studied to a lesser extent, and the results are different.…”
