Impact of the Priobiotic on the Presence of Selected Virulence Genes and Drug-Resistance Among Campylobacter Coli Isolated from Piglets

Abstract: The investigations comprised 100 piglets of crossbreed Polish Landrace x Large White Polish breed. Faeces samples were collected on the 2 nd d of piglets' life (control). On the 5 th d of life of the piglets, probiotic paste was applied and 7 d later, faecal samples were collected again. The material included 100 isolates of Campylobacter sp. obtained from healthy piglets. All isolates were assigned to the Campylobacter coli species. The occurrence of virulence genes was determined by the PCR method. Drugresis… Show more

“…Biswas et al (2011) confirmed the occurrence of this gene in 100% of the examined C. jejuni strains derived from human clinical studies and cow faeces. Selwet and Galbas (2012a;2012b) observed that the cadF and flaA genes were found in 100% of C. coli and C. jejuni isolated from broilers, porkers, calves and piglets. All the strains of C. jejuni, C. coli C. upsaliensis under analysis carried the cdtB gene encoding the protein exhibiting toxic properties, i.e.…”

“…According to the investigations by Andrzejewska et al (2011) and Selwet and Galbas (2012a;2012b) on C. coli occurrence in people, dogs, cats, and piglets, the presence of the flaA gene in all the examined isolates was also recorded (Selwet et al, 2015). The next factor affecting virulence is gene cadF, which is responsible for production of adhesines.…”

“…Termotolerancyjne bakterie z rodzaju Campylobacter (np. C. jejuni, C. coli i C. lari) stanowią część naturalnej bioty jelitowej ssaków, głównie ptaków, są również obecne w zanieczyszczonej odchodami wodzie i glebie [5]. Bliski kontakt pomiędzy chorymi zwierzętami i brak podstawowych zasad higieny może być wektorem powodującym kampylobakteriozy u zwierząt i ludzi [6].…”
