Impact of Urbanization and Economic Growth on CO2 Emission: A Case of Far East Asian Countries

Abstract: Rising CO2 emission constitute a great threat to the world environment and public health. This study examines the major determinants of CO2 emissions in Far East countries in the period of 1980 to 2017. We adopt a panel data-fixed effect model that accounts for time-invariant country-specific characteristics that may create omitted-variable bias. We also additionally take care of the time trend by applying an annual fixed effect into our model. The study finds that urbanization, economic growth and trade openn… Show more

“…It progresses potentially over 100 million people transited to Chinese different cities by 2020. However, it is likely leading to large increase in CO2 emissions and energy consumption [ 83 , 84 ]. This study recorded the expected decoupling result 1.532 in URL with decreasing effects and -14.850 in RUL.…”

“…Most of drought tolerant PGPB strains are plant hormone producers. In lower concentrations, auxin, as mentioned before in this paper, promotes root growth and branching and supports overall vigorous root growth, and thus water and nutrient uptake capacity [ 47 , 186 , 187 ]. Increased ABA, GA and IAA reduced drought stress due to maize inoculated endophytic A. lipoferum.…”

“…The increase in land use due to deforestation contributes to a quarter of the increase in total CO 2 emissions [ 14 ]. Fossil carbon, which has formed in the Earth’s crust over millions of years, is released into the atmosphere as CO 2 in enormous quantities, over the course of decades [ 47 ].…”

“…This study adopted the Anwar et al, (2020) theoretical framework to examine the impact of economic growth, urbanization and trade openness on CO 2 emission. Furthermore, to examine the foreign direct investment on CO 2 emission modified the model adding foreign direct investment inflow variable in the model.…”
