“…Spanish [14], Swedish [15], Chinese [16], German [17] and Hungarian [18]) and initial evidence for the instrument’s cross-cultural equivalence is available [1418]. The questionnaire has been applied several times, including in patients with temporomandibular disorders [19, 20], xerostomia [21], burning mouth syndrome [22], tooth agenesis [23] and HIV infection [24, 25]. Clinical trials have also used the OHIP to evaluate implant-supported prostheses [26, 27] and steroidal therapy for oral lichen planus [28].…”

“…Low salivary flow can influence increased caries experience in DM patients (Siudikiene et al, 2006, Márton et al, 2008. Furthermore, the subjective feeling of dry mouth (xerostomia) may result from a reduction in saliva secretion and was shown to have a negative impact on the quality of life of adolescents with DM1 (Busato et al, 2009). Saliva contains immunological and non-immunological proteins with antibacterial properties (Humphrey & Williamson, 2001).…”

“…The significant difference in salivary composition and SSFR between adolescents with and without DM1 and the significantly higher xerostomia prevalence noted in adolescents who have DM1 may suggest an increased risk of dental caries and oral disease in DM1 patients. Furthermore, xerostomia has been shown to have a negative impact on the quality of life of adolescents with DM1 (Busato et al, 2009). Moreover, there are limited accounts in the literature regarding the prevalence of hyperglycemia and its association with salivary composition, flow rate and xerostomia in adolescents with DM1, which makes direct comparisons between our study and other studies difficult.…”

“…Данный синдром чрезвычайно негативно влияет на качество жизни пациентов и является актуальной про-блемой в стоматологической практике, оториноларинго-логии, онкологии, а также других областях медицины [5][6][7][8][9][10]. Говоря о распространенности ксеростомии, следу-ет отметить, что данное состояние выявляется примерно у 12% мировой популяции людей, а в старших возрастных группах достигает 25% [11].…”
