Impacts of agricultural waste and NPK fertilizers on soil chemical properties, production and phosphorus uptake of sweet corn plants on ultisol soil

Abstract: Ultisol soil is classified as a marginal terrain with a low productivity level. Thus, this research aims to determine the most fitting biochar material and the effects of NPK fertilizer regarding the chemical properties of Ultisol soil that are analyzed on the production and phosphorus uptake of sweet corn plants. The materials used for the biochar consist of agricultural waste. This research utilized factorial randomized block design which was repeated three times. Factor number one consisted of three types o… Show more

“…In contrast, phosphorus was easily fixed and difficult to be absorbed and utilized by crops [47]. It is reported that coconut bran and biochar contain a high content of basic cations, and the large surface area and negatively charged surface enhance the electrostatic adsorption and retention capacity of Ca 2+ and other cations so that nutrients can be slowly released for plant use [48]. As such, a higher total nitrogen content in the substrate leads to better nitrogen utilization efficiency.…”

“…Of course, before fertilizing with inorganic fertilizers to overcome the high acidity and saturation of Al and the low availability of nutrients and organic matter in Ultisols, organic matter and liming are added (Lin et al, 2018). The application of NPK fertilizer as much as 4 g/pot combined with biochar can increase the availability of macro nutrients N, P, and K as well as sweet corn production in Ultisols (Panjaitan et al, 2022). The application of NPK fertilizer at a dose of 16.7 g/plant on okra can increase the availability of nutrients in Ultisols (Kayode & Adeoye, 2021).…”
