Impacts of Global Warming of 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0 °C on Hydrologic Regimes in the Northeastern U.S.

Abstract: Regional climate change impacts show a wide range of variations under different levels of global warming. Watersheds in the northeastern region of the United States (NEUS) are projected to undergo the most severe impacts from climate change in the forms of extreme precipitation events, floods and drought, sea level rise, etc. As such, there is high possibility that hydrologic regimes in the NEUS may be altered in the future, which can be absolutely devastating for managing water resources and ecological balanc… Show more

“…In addition, the rapid growth of the population with not enough environmental awareness has led to the release of massive waste materials through several activities [4]. The release of greenhouse gases proportionally increased and contributed to the significant rise in the earth's temperature, with a threat value close to 1.5 • C [5,6]. Thus, reducing, capturing, or recycling greenhouse gases is a matter of life or death for humanity.…”

“…By year 2042 the global temperatures would have risen by 1.5°C. 1 According to the report on climate change, by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, published in February 2022, global warming would have adverse impacts on human and animal life. This would imply scarcity of water leading to droughts, melting of polar ice leading to flooding, effects of severe heat resulting in fires and all this causing a serious threat to biodiversity.…”

“…A few of the major challenges are indicators like neonatal mortality rate, incidence of tuberculosis and subjective wellbeing of a common citizen. 1 A positive trend is visible in the childbirths being attended by skilled workers, but even this indicator still falls under a significant challenge.…”
