Implantation and Establishment of Pregnancy in Ruminants

Abstract: The establishment of pregnancy in ruminants occurs during the peri-implantation period and involves the suppression of the endometrial luteolytic mechanism to maintain progesterone production by the corpus luteum (CL). Reciprocal interactions between the elongating conceptus (embryo/fetus and associated extraembryonic membranes) and endometrium culminate in implantation. Antiluteolytic effects of the conceptus are due to the production of interferon tau (IFNT) by the trophoblast that has a paracrine effect to … Show more

“…The results found that dynamic changes in the ULF secretome do not occur in association with the development of uterine receptivity. This finding starkly contrasts with analysis of the ULF secretome during early pregnancy in large animals such as cattle, sheep and pigs226162. Results of the present study to support the idea that uterine GE have a primarily biological role in homeostasis of the ULF, because many proteins and most amino acids were more abundant in ULF from PUGKO than WT mice.…”

“…Many researchers reported that the IFNT exists its effect on blood cells [7,[16][17][18] , CL [6,[19][20][21] , and liver [9] in the ovine and bovine. It is through paracrine and endocrine style that IFNT secreted by the conceptus releases into the uterine vein, and extends the luteal life span during early pregnancy in sheep [8,22,23] . Therefore, it is possible that IFNT exerts its effect on the BM, which is implicated in regulating the maternal immune system through blood circulation during early pregnancy in sheep.…”
