Background & objective Though blended learning (BL), is widely adopted in higher education, evaluating effectiveness of BL is difficult because the components of BL can be extremely heterogeneous. Purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of BL in improving knowledge and skill in pharmacy education. Methods PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus and the Cochrane Library were searched to identify published literature. The retrieved studies from databases were screened for its title and abstracts followed by the full-text in accordance with the pre-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Methodological quality was appraised by modified Ottawa scale. Random effect model used for statistical modelling. Key findings A total of 26 studies were included for systematic review. Out of which 20 studies with 4525 participants for meta-analysis which employed traditional teaching in control group. Results showed a statistically significant positive effect size on knowledge (standardized mean difference [SMD]: 1.35, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.91 to 1.78, p<0.00001) and skill (SMD: 0.68; 95% CI: 0.19 to 1.16; p = 0.006) using a random effect model. Subgroup analysis of cohort studies showed, studies from developed countries had a larger effect size (SMD: 1.54, 95% CI: 1.01 to 2.06), than studies from developing countries(SMD: 0.44, 95% CI: 0.23 to 0.65, studies with MCQ pattern as outcome assessment had larger effect size (SMD: 2.81, 95% CI: 1.76 to 3.85) than non-MCQs (SMD 0.53, 95% CI 0.33 to 0.74), and BL with case studies (SMD 2.72, 95% CI 1.86–3.59) showed better effect size than non-case-based studies (SMD: 0.22, CI: 0.02 to 0.41). Conclusion BL is associated with better academic performance and achievement than didactic teaching in pharmacy education.

Introdução O vídeo educativo vem sendo produzido no campo da promoção de saúde em diferentes países para disseminar informação em saúde e contribuir para fomentar o diálogo sobre processos de saúde e doenças. A literatura sobre produção e validação de vídeo na saúde utiliza, em sua maioria, abordagem quantitativa. Diante disso, o curtametragem "Nossas Histórias" foi produzido a partir de narrativas empíricas de enfermeiras e familiares que participaram da revelação do HIV à criança soropositiva. Objetivos: avaliar o curta-metragem "Nossas Histórias", sobre preparação de famílias para a revelação da criança HIV soropositiva, por enfermeiros e enfermeiras. Métodos Estudo qualitativo de avaliação de inovação tecnológica implementado com o Método da Roda, proporciona espaços coletivos de encontro e diálogos grupais onde os participantes valorizam seus saberes na criação de estratégias coletivas de mudança. Ele foi desenvolvido com 12 enfermeiros e enfermeiras no Rio de Janeiro. Os dados produzidos foram submetidos à análise de conteúdo de Minayo Resultados Após a análise do corpus textual do material produzido pelas enfermeiras na avaliação do curta-metragem, emergiram cinco temas: o conjunto da ferramenta curtametragem, cenário, conteúdo do roteiro e público-alvo, indissociabilidade entre personagens e conteúdos e indissociabilidade entre personagem e técnica. Conclusões. O curta-metragem "Nossas Histórias" é um recurso inovador com potencial para ser aplicado no campo clínico do cuidado de advocacia pela enfermeira no ambiente da consulta de enfermagem. Sua produção foi estruturada tomando como marco de referência as dimensões ontológicas, metodológicas e epistemológicas de geração de conhecimento numa linguagem audiovisual que traduziu saberes próprios (de famílias) e científicos. No entanto, ainda é necessário realizar ajustes para que o curta metragem esteja adequado à realidade das enfermeiras.

Background:In 2020, higher education embraced alternative content delivery to provide academic instruction to accommodate for the pandemic. Although this adaptation of content delivery was temporary for some, the uses of YouTube videos, Podcast, and distance learning have been an increasingly desired format for students. The transition of the traditionally two-part National Board Dental Examination into a one-part, integrating biomedical, behavioral, and clinical sciences initiated in 2018 started with limited study resources. This study hypothesized that podcast would be a useful format for Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE) review. The study's purpose was to evaluate the students' perspective of podcasts as INBDE supplemental review resource. Methods: Seven episodes, 10-15 min long, case-based clinical scenario podcasts were recorded. Students and faculty reviewed academic content and accuracy. Episodes were recorded and published on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Podcasts under the channel "Dental Study Bites" as INBDE review material. Listeners were invited to complete a 16-item Google form questionnaire. Respondents were deidentified, and descriptive analysis was performed.Results: Podcast episodes were played 256 times with 31 survey respondents. Listeners on Spotify represented seven different countries with 61.3% females and 38.4% males. Ninety percent of respondents found cases useful and helpful. Eighty-six percent found cases promoted learning and 90% believed podcasts could be useful in the dental curriculum. Conclusion:The Dental Study Bites Podcast served as a helpful and useful method to deliver instructional content. The use of podcast offers flexible means for students to review instructional materials and can be created inexpensively.
