“…Feldman (1994), Wade et al (2008), and Coren et al (2011) have reviewed parenting training research in the field. These reviews and the results of several trials hence (e.g., Gaskin et al, 2012; Glazemakers & Deboutte, 2013; Monsen et al, 2011; Rao 2013) support the conclusion that behavior-based, in situ interventions that are appropriately matched to the parent’s learning needs are effective in equipping parents with cognitive impairment with parenting skills.…”

“…There is limited research focused on the experiences and outcomes of interventions designed for parents with I/DD involved in child welfare. Using a mixed-methods design, it answers the research questions (RQs): (1) What are the characteristics of clients referred to the program?…”

“…One such program listed on the California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse for Child Welfare is Project IMPACT, an intensive in-home behaviorally based parent training program designed for parents with I/DD who are at-risk for foster care placement and who have open child welfare cases. In a preliminary study, individuals who completed Project IMPACT saw statistically significant improvements in several domains including childcare skills, managing a household, and parent–child interactions (Rao, 2013). Additionally, 1 year after program completion, 97% of families for whom data were available remained intact (Rao, 2013).…”
