It is my great pleasure to introduce You the research papers of the Eleventh Symposium on Graphic Engineering and Design.With this proceeding we continue the works of previous symposiums which have been held biennial since year 2002.We're delighted that this international symposium has once again gatered a great number of participants from many countries as it became a tradition over the past 20 years.The papers include the achievements of researches in the field of technology and scientific areas relevant to graphic technology and graphic design. Through the work of the symposium GRID we continued significant scientific cooperation with educational institutions all over the world. With them we are continuing good cooperation which is the driving force for the creation and display of new developments, both individual and common. I want to thank everyone who participated with their paper and presentation in the Symposium. Your contribution is significant for the improvement of the Symposium on Graphic Engineering and Design GRID 22. The research achievements presented here are also valuable to the scientific and professional community and are highly appreciated.

Scholars in design agree that sketching is of great value to the process of design and development. Whereas its origin lies in the sketching and presenting of tangible (industrially designed) products, the discipline has, since the 2000s, extended in various ways, along various dimensions. Various authors have addressed and discussed the most prominent change within the discipline since: the addition of socalled 'storytelling visuals': sketches of processes, overviews, systems and e.g. journeys [1, 2], also named 'visual thinking'. In fact, sketching as a means of communication has grown across discipline borders, and, as a consequence, the activity of sketching for communication enjoys a growing group of actors and audience these days. One particular course, a so-called 'Master Class', which is an intensive two-day taking course, taught to an external audience, focused on 'how to sketch visual stories', was subject to an experiment. The course was designed according to specific requirements (audience, pedagogy) [2]. Secondly, in order to assess the logic of the structure and the quality of the short course's structure and contents, participants were asked to fill out a questionnaire. Together, this experimental set-up, the questionnaire results, and the sketched output of the Master Class have led to new insights, to new knowledge that will help improve the pedagogic approach of many of the current courses taught and to the follow up Master Class in particular.

A variety of scholars suggest that the practice of DIY promises to support a sustainable relationship between things and people, respectively between people and nature (Bianchini & Maffei, 2013;Bonvoisin et al, 2017;Hoftijzer, 2012;Salvia, 2013;Van Abel, Klaassen, Evers, & Troxler, 2011). More specifically, this paper addresses the facilitation of DIY activity, the role and responsibility of design therein, and the grounding and design of a 'Design-for-DIY' framework to help designers facilitate DIY activity.…”
