Implications of four-top and top-pair studies on triple-top production

Abstract: Multi-top quark production is a staple program at the LHC. Single-top and tt productions are studied extensively, while current efforts are zooming in on four-top search, where the Standard Model (SM) cross section is at O(10) fb. In contrast, only at the fb level in SM, triple-top production has not been targeted for study so far. But such a small cross section makes it a unique probe for New Physics. Without the usual discrete Z2 symmetry, the general two Higgs doublet model (g2HDM) can naturally raise the t… Show more

“…It is also worth mentioning the "excess" seen by CMS [53] in the gg → A → tt search at m A ≈ 400 GeV. Such excess can be interpreted within the g2HDM framework [32], if ρ tt ≃ 1.1 and ρ tc ≃ 0.9 with m H AE ≳ 530 GeV and m H ≳ 500 GeV. Note that, for ρ tt ∼ 1, the tZH discovery (or cg → tH → tZA discovery) is not possible due to suppression from BðA → ttÞ (BðH → ttÞ) decay.…”

“…Heavier m A , m H are possible, but the discovery prospect is reduced due to rapid falloff in parton luminosities. As the ρ tc -induced cg → tH=tA → ttc process [23][24][25][26] (see also Refs. [27][28][29][30]) can be misidentified as ug → tH=tA → ttū due to inefficient c-jet tagging, we outline a procedure to distinguish between the two processes.…”

“…Since the FCNC couplings are related to non-FCNC couplings, such as t-t-Z coupling, we also consider non-FCNC processes, dijet production, pp → jj, top quark pair production, pp → tt, and four top quark production, pp → tttt to compare them with FCNC processes. Furthermore, since the triple top quark production involves both FCNC and non-FCNC couplings, the constraints from the non-FCNC processes must be considered [9]. This paper is organized as follows.…”
