Implications of Land Use Dynamics on Ecosystem Service Value: A Case Study from Goalpara District of Assam, Northeast India

Abstract: Systematic studies on implications of land use change on ecosystem service value (ESV) at landscape level are scarce in Northeast India hence, a case study was undertaken in the vicinity of Ghagra Pahar Forest (GPF) predominated by tropical deciduous forest in Goalpara district of Assam. Study aims to assess the ecosystem services (ES) provided by the forest ecosystem. Altogether 23 ES were identified and grouped based on peoples’ knowledge and perceptions. Study area has been categorized in to six land use ty… Show more

“…(Rouwer et al,2013). The economic worth of agricultural land's average grain yield per hectare per year is similar to a weight factor (the potential of an ecosystem to supply an ES) (De Groot et al,2012;Gashaw et al,2018& Deka et al,2020. The unit of ecosystem service coefficients is in US$ ha−1 yr−1, which was later converted to TK ha−1 yr−1 (1 US$ to 84.79 Tk according january,2022) [Table :1] to use the value locally in this study.…”

“…These values vary with changes in land-use patterns. The summation of all values for different services is finally used to determine the coefficient value of each land class (Deka et al,2020). The ES coefficients for each LULC category of the studied landscape were computed, and the values are presented in Table 1.…”
