Importancia y desafíos de la educación inicial docente: El rol de las universidades regionales

Abstract

The quality of teachers is a key element if educational processes are to improve people's skills and abilities to function effectively in higher educational and work environments. Based on this, the purpose of this essay is to highlight the importance, as well as the challenges, that regional universities have in initial teacher training. To achieve this objective, the analysis of secondary sources was used, mainly empirical studies that provided background information on the capacities, abilities and competencies of Chileans, to then propose recommendations on how the quality of teacher training in these institutions could be improved. As a result, it is proposed that it is necessary to consolidate a high-quality academic body, to which must be added educational resources that allow relevant teaching for students who are native-digital. Similarly, the importance of early attraction of talented students with a teaching vocation is highlighted, which must be combined with support programs for students during their subsequent university career. Finally, it is concluded that continuing education is an important task for regional universities if they want to achieve a permanent updating of the teaching staff of a region
