“…The cytotoxic and antiproliferative activity of several green, brown and red seaweed extracts appear to be related to their content of lipophilic compounds, phenols and lectins, respectively (Moo-Puc et al 2009); however, variations in lipid content and composition (i.e., fatty acids) did not explained the antiproliferative activity assessed against several cancer cell lines in cultured green seaweeds Penicillus dumetosus (Moo-Puc et al 2011b) and Udotea flavelum (Moo-Puc et al 2011a).
