The bulge structure of N-doped carbon cages is beneficial to improving the specific surface area and increasing the active sites of a chemical reaction. Therefore, this structure plays a role in increasing capacity in energy storage. However, the precise and most effective method of ensuring the bulge structures is still a challenge. Herein, a silicaassisted method is used to prepare N-doped carbon cages with bulges. The effective assembly of a nitrogen-rich resin and silica precursor is employed to construct the bulge structure on the surface. The reaction temperature of the assembly system and the amount of silica precursor are the key influences on the number and degree of bulges. In contrast to conventional carbon materials that have a smooth surface, the bulge structure allows for exposure and accessibility of the activity sites. Due to the N-doping features, a rich mesoporous structure and controllable bulges, the synergism of the high density, large ionaccessible surface area, and fast charge transfer, lead to high performance under the premise of high rate capability in supercapacitor. This silica-assisted strategy can also work on other preprepared corresponding templates that have a different architecture to prepare core−shell carbon tubes, carbon spheres, and carbon rods with a bulge structure.

extraordinary optical, mechanical, and electronic properties. [1][2][3] MXenes (singular; MXene; pronounced "maxenes") are a class of 2D inorganic compounds that are composed of few-atom-thick layers of transition metal nitrides, carbides, or carbonitriles. [4] The first MXene, Ti 3 C 2 T x , was reported in 2011 by Naguib et al. without any prior prediction for the stability of such 2D materials. [5] MXenes (MXs) have a general chemical formula of M n+1 X n T x (n = 1-3) and are generally synthesized by the delamination of quaternary and tertiary 3D compounds called MAX phases. [6][7][8] In the chemical formula, M signifies a transition metal (e.g., Ti, Sc, Zr, Nb, etc.), X is C and/ or N, and T x is the oxygen, fluorine, or hydroxyl terminals consequent from the synthetic precursors (Figure 1). [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16] MXenes can also be synthesized from other layered precursors such as Mo 2 Ga 2 C and Zr 3 Al 3 C 5 . After the establishment Ti 3 C 2 T x as of the first MXene, numerous MXenes have been synthesized and predicted theoretically. [17][18][19][20][21] Typically, MXenes are synthesized using a top-down approach that accounts for selective etching of A-layer from 3D crystalline-layered nitrides and carbides (MAX phases; Figure 2). [22] In MAX phases, M n+1 X n layers are held together by an atomic layer of an A-group transition element, usually group 13 or 16 group elements, principally Ga, Si, P, As, and Al. considerable electrochemical stability, which is ascribed to the natural passivation layer Al 2 O 3 . [10] The Al 2 O 3 layer could availably prevent Al from corrosion in an ideal state (absence of water, voltage <4.0 V versus Li/Li + approximately). [11][12][13] Obviously, it is hardly to achieve an anhydrous environment and corresponding strategies are adopted to deal with the aluminum oxidation after passivation layer breakdown. Modulating electrolyte composition is effective, including additives, [14,15] superconcentrated electrolytes [16,17] or new lithium salts [18,19] and solvents. [20,21] And recently, the modification of Al current collector has gradually attracted scientific attention, such as in situ chemical conversion [22,23] or passivation layer assembly. [24][25][26] An advanced artificial passivation layer we anticipate should simultaneously resist corrosion and conduct electricity. In addition, the power and energy trade-off of LIBs restricts the thickness of artificial passivation layer. [27] Naturally, designing a suitable Al current collector is challenging and meaningful.MXene (Ti 3 C 2 T x ) nanosheets, as a member of 2D transition metal carbides, own extraordinary conductivity, abundant adjustable functional groups (OH, O, or F) and unique layered structure, [28][29][30][31] which are frequently employed as active material or conductive substrate to construct nanocomposite electrodes. [32] Furthermore, MXene also possesses a foundation for anticorrosion (high strength, modulus, and chemical stability). In Li||LiCo 1/3 Ni 1/3 Mn 1/3 O 2 (NCM333) system with a high cut-off voltage of 4.5 V, cells with MXene-Al possess an enhanced electrochemical performance. The discharge capacity retention reaches up to 81.4% after 300 cycles at 0.5 C, while that of pristine Al is only 21%. The self-discharge propensity is alleviative and rate/power performance is improved. Elevating operating voltage (above 4.5 V) is a consequential approach to increasing the energy density of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Unfortunately, the corrosion of cathode aluminum (Al) current collector at high voltage limits the application of high-voltage LIBs.
