Transition metal compounds (TMCs) are being researched as promising electrode materials for electrochemical energy storage devices (supercapacitors). Among TMCs, transition metal phosphates (TMPs) have good, layered structures owing to open framework and protonic exchange capability among different layers, good surface area due to engrossed porosity, rich active redox reaction sites owing to octahedral structure and variable valance metallic ions. Hence TMPs become more ideal for supercapacitor electrode materials compared to other TMCs. However, TMPs have got some issues like low conductivity, rate performance, stability, energy, and power densities. But these problems can be addressed by making their composites with carbonaceous materials e.g., carbon nanotubes (CNTs), graphene oxide (GO), graphitic carbon (GC) etc. A few factors like high surface area, excellent electrical conductivity of carbon materials and variable valence metal ions in TMPs caused great enhancement in their electrochemical performance. This article tries to discuss and compare the published data, majorly in last decade, regarding the electrochemical energy storage potential of pristine unary, binary, and ternary TMPs and their hybrid composites with carbonaceous materials (CNTs, GOs/rGOs/, GC etc.). The electrochemical performance of the hybrids has been reported to be higher than the pristine counterparts. It is hoped that the current review will open a new gateway to study and explore the high performance TMPs based supercapacitor materials.

Metal–organic frameworks with complex geometry have garnered significant attention in technological fields due to their diverse properties. Multimetallic metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) have potential to demonstrate superior conductivity and efficiency compared to pristines, but, they have not been explored to research on large scale. Herein, significant effect of binary (NiCo‐) and ternary (NiCoMn‐) MOFs is explored with a novel approach using an organic ligand hexamethylene tetra‐amine (HMT). The as‐synthesized MOFs with their distinctive structures are thoroughly examined to analyze their structural, morphological, and electrochemical properties. In a standard half‐cell setup, the electrochemical behaviors of both samples are investigated, as both electrodes exhibit specific capacities of 349 and 905 C g−1, at 3 mV s−1, individually. Due to promising electrochemical responses of NiCoMnMOF, a supercapattery device is constructed as NiCoMnMOF//AC. This hybridization leads to the remarkable specific energy (78 Wh kg−1) and specific power (3500 W kg−1) with stability rate of ≈96% and Coulombic efficiency of 99% after undergoing 5000 galvanostatic charge–discharge cycles, making it highly suitable for modern applications. To gain better insight of supercapattery device, a semiempirical approach is employed, using Dunn's modulation. Thus, the synergy of NiCoMnMOF//AC in the single hybrid device exhibiting battery‐like characteristics holds tremendous potential for driving innovations in energy storage technology.

To address the issue of electrochemical performance degradation resulting from redox reactions during the charging and discharging of supercapacitors, we introduced a novel electrode material featuring a core–shell attachment structure (PANI@(MnO2 + NiO)) with the incorporation of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The introduction of CNT on top of the core–shell structure by a simple chemical synthesis method helps to improve the double‐layer capacitance and Faraday capacitance of the composite. Thus, multiple synergistic effects can be produced to improve charge storage capacity. The morphology structure and electrochemical properties of PANI@(MnO2 + NiO)@CNT were analyzed. In a three‐electrode configuration, the specific capacitance of the composite is 327 F g−1 at a current density of 0.5 A g−1. Remarkably, the capacitance retention rate exceeded 75% after 5000 charge–discharge cycles. Calculations indicate that in a supercapacitor employing a 1 M Na2SO4 electrolyte, the composite demonstrated energy and power densities of 48.1 W h kg−1 and 999.9 W kg−1, respectively. This kind of core–shell structural composites achieved electrochemical properties in line with expectations through a simple chemical synthesis method. As a practical application of supercapacitor electrode materials, PANI@(MnO2 + NiO)@CNT have better electrical properties than similar materials and have broad application prospects in industrial production.
