Improved Method for Determining the Height of Center of Gravity of Agricultural Tractors

Abstract: This study aimed to improve the method for determining the position of the center of gravity for agricultural tractors. Methods: The proposed method uses trigonometric functions and coordinate transformation. Data were measured according to the ISO 789-6 test procedures for the center of gravity of agricultural tractors. The height calculated using the proposed method was compared with that determined from an AutoCAD drawing. To find the center of gravity of the tractor, the algorithm for finding the intersect… Show more

“…Figure 2 shows the side view of each type of tractor, including the combustion tractor, and their orientation (0, 0 on XZ plane) where contact is made between the front wheel and the ground. The CoG of the combustion tractor was reflected in the 3D model based on a previous study that calculated the CoG with the overall dimensions of the vehicle [46]. This was then verified with the CoG calculation model that the software provided.…”

“…They evaluated the safety of agricultural machines by developing a mathematical model that can determine the slip according to the slope angle and the coefficient of friction. Kim et al [12] derived the center of gravity of a tractor, which affects lateral overturning, using trigonometric functions and polar coordinate transformation. Kang et al [13] derived a static falling down sidelong angle of a three-wheeled power tiller by experimentation.…”

“…Centre of gravity (CG) and moment of inertia are two crucial parameters in analysing the dynamics and mechanical system of a body [1][2] . Low CG and moment of inertia in the body axis provides a vehicle with high manoeuvrability, as well as satisfactory control and stability [3][4][5] . Inertial properties must be determined precisely as they have imperative effects on vehicle dynamics.…”
